Drunk driver flees the scene of fatal California car crash

Every day, residents of Los Angeles get into their cars with the expectation that they will return home safely. Driving is part of our daily routine, getting us to and from work but every now and then even a drive to work can turn deadly. Unfortunately this was the reality for a 47-year-old U.S. Postal Service Worker who was involved in a fatal car crash on his way to work early on a Saturday morning.

The employee was slowing his car to pull into work when he was rear-ended by a Chevy Monte Carlo. Authorities estimate that, at the time of impact, the Chevy was traveling at about 95 miles per hour and was being operated by a drunk driver.

By the time authorities arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver of the Chevy and two of the four passengers in the car had fled on foot. The two passengers that remained in the vehicle were both 20-years-old and severely injured. Those two passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The less fortunate postal employee suffered numerous blunt-force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene before medics could save him.

There are numerous varying factors that can cause a car accident. However, if one of the factors is due to an individual’s negligent behavior then the liability for the injuries suffered falls to those negligent parties. Drunk driving is by definition a negligent behavior. Therefore, it is very important that authorities find the individual that was operating the Monte Carlo under the influence

The family of a party that is fatally injured in a car accident may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party to recover damages in the form of monetary compensation. Compensation may help them recover from the unexpected hardship that a fatal accident brings.

If the victim happens to survive the accident, the negligent driver is still liable to that individual to provide compensation to help them pay their medical bills and other financial obligations that arose due to the negligent behavior. In these situations, a personal injury attorney can help the injured parties and their families determine what options for recovery are available.
