Boy dies at home after car breaks through wall

A five-year-old boy from Los Angeles died shortly after writing his letter to Santa when a car crashed through the wall of his family's apartment. The boy's parents were also hospitalized, along with two other children who were also injured during the accident. Police found the boy and his parents trapped under the vehicle. Apparently, the boy's father had tried to block the car from hitting his son, who was sleeping on the couch.

Police say the driver of the vehicle claimed she had been effectively forced off the road by another vehicle, a car police are still trying to identify. The driver of the vehicle claimed that the other vehicle caused her to slam in to the apartment. However, police have arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, meaning this incident could have been a drunk driving accident or an accident involving drugs.

The condition of the other victims of this accident is not known at this time.

This tragic case illustrates that in Los Angeles, not all fatal car accidents involve two or more cars colliding on the road. A driver can wind up hitting a pedestrian or bicyclist or, in extreme cases, can even hit someone playing in a yard or even resting in his or her own home. The causes of these sorts of accidents vary, but they can include an inattentive driver, a driver who is texting or talking on the cell phone or a driver operating under the influence.

When a driver's negligence or recklessness leads to a death, especially of a child, the grieving family may want to seek compensation for their financial and emotional losses.
