A quick Internet search for motorcycle accidents in California will reveal just how common these types of accidents are; with headlines involving motorcycle crashes occurring on a near weekly basis. While these crashes are common, they are also far too often, fatal.
Due to their size and structure it is no wonder that motorcycle riders are at greater risk for accidents, catastrophic injuries and fatalities. Motorcycles are often harder to see, and may be easily obscured by bigger vehicles on the road. An accident just last week on Highway 62 in Desert Hot Springs, California, resulted in a serious collision between a truck and motorcycle with the severity of the crash closing down several lanes of traffic. The motorcycle driver suffered extensive injuries and died in the hospital several days later as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. Nevertheless, this collision still resulted in the tragic death of a 77-year old rider.
These types of accidents are tragic and occur often on our roadways. Even where there are no immediate signs of fault, these accidents often involve negligence such as distracted driving, failure to yield the right of way to motorcyclists, obstructed views or a variety of other factors.
