Another police shooting leads to wrongful death lawsuit

On Behalf of | Feb 7, 2019 | Wrongful Death

Our readers may have seen a previous post that discussed a wrongful death lawsuit based on a police shooting that was settled recently. It seems that these types of incidents are popping up in the news all too frequently these days, for all the wrong reasons.

According to a recent report, another wrongful death lawsuit is being pursued in California after a different police shooting incident. The reports indicate that this most recent lawsuit is based on the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in Sacramento. The initial paperwork for the lawsuit states that the man’s family is seeking $20 million from the City of Sacramento.

The reports state that the incident occurred back in March of 2018. Police were reportedly investigating a claim of someone in an area of Sacramento breaking car windows. The police officers on the scene encountered the victim, at which time the victim was shot numerous times by a group of police officers. Although there are indications that the police officers believed the victim had a handgun at the time of the shooting, the victim was found carrying only a cellphone.

Any incident that leads to the unexpected death of a loved one may form the basis for a wrongful death claim. No family ever wants to be in a situation similar to what the family of this victim is facing, but those who do may have legal options. If you have questions regarding a wrongful death case, you should contact an attorney to answer those questions.
