A deadly Memorial Day weekend in California

Most people across America, including in California, probably spent the recent Memorial Day holiday weekend with family and friends, maybe at parties and cookouts, celebrating a long weekend off of work and being grateful for the sacrifices of others.

Unfortunately, it seems that the joy we all hope to experience on these types of special weekends throughout the year is also subject to the damper of realizing the there seems to be an increase in the amount of traffic accidents and fatalities at such times. According to a recent report, Memorial Day weekend in California this year was quite deadly.

The reports indicate that a total of 18 people died in fatal car accidents in California over the recent holiday weekend. The actual number of total car accidents that led to these fatalities was not disclosed, and the causes of the accidents are still being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

But, like most car accidents in America, it is probably safe to assume that the usual causes, like drunk driving, distracted driving and drowsy driving, can’t be immediately ruled out.

On top of these fatalities, the CHP also reported that their drunk driving patrols resulted in hundreds of arrests in California over the recent holiday weekend. All told, almost 750 DUI arrests were made over the course of the Memorial Day weekend, according to the reports.

Any type of car accident can lead to devasting injuries, and even fatalities. As the results of the recent holiday weekend in California show, the potential for tragedy is, unfortunately, common on the roads in our country. Anyone who has been injured in a car accident that was caused by another person may have legal options to pursue.
