Michael Killackey completed his Bachelor degree in 1997 with a double major in Business Economics and Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mr. Killackey earned his Juris Doctor in 2000 from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. After graduation, Loyola Law School invited Mr. Killackey to join their Board of Governors.
Mr. Killackey began his law career as a defense attorney with one of the most successful and respected medical malpractice law firms in California, Carroll, Kelly & Trotter. As a trial attorney, Mr. Killackey defended doctors and hospitals. Over the next five years, Mr. Killackey established a solid understanding of medicine. After working as a defense attorney, Mr. Killackey refocused his career and dedicated himself as a plaintiff’s attorney to help injured persons recover for their injuries.
In 2006, Mr. Killackey joined the law firm of Ernster Law Offices and focused his work on catastrophic train crash litigation, and plaintiff personal injury litigation.
In 2007, Mr. Killackey joined one of the world’s most successful and prestigious law firms, Masry & Vititoe, often recognized for its depiction in the movie Erin Brockovich. As a partner with Masry & Vititoe, Mr. Killackey was Lead Trial Counsel of the Personal Injury Litigation Department. Mr. Killackey now focuses his practice on traumatic brain injury Litigation, wrongful death, catastrophic loss, spinal cord injury, truck and bus collisions, train crash, vehicle rollover, product liability, insurance bad faith and professional malpractice litigation.
In 2009 and 2010, Mr. Killackey was nominated as a Rising Star Super Lawyer for his work as a plaintiff personal injury attorney. In addition, Mr. Killackey and his team secured a $10,000,000 partial settlement for his clients, a group of tourists from Shanghai China who were victims of a tour bus rollover on January 30, 2009 which killed seven people and seriously injured 10 others.
In 2010, Mr. Killackey was named a 2010 Finalist for Consumer Attorney of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC). This honor resulted from the work Mr. Killackey’s team completed with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to protect small children from a dangerous children’s’ bed which strangled and killed his young client.
In 2011, Mr. Killackey was named Pasadena Magazine’s only Top Attorney in the practice area of Personal Injury/Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation.
Since founding Killackey Law Offices, APC with is father, Albert, Mr. Killackey continues to remain Of Counsel with Masry & Vititoe.
Mr. Killackey has represented numerous families for the wrongful death of their loved ones, and victims of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, nerve injury, etc. which were incurred in serious motor vehicle collisions and other catastrophic events. Mr. Killackey has also represented victims of wrongful death and catastrophic injury in multiple bus/van rollover crashes throughout the United States, including two separate Grand Canyon tour bus rollovers in Arizona, a school bus rollover in Arkansas, a high school van rollover in New Hampshire, and a casino charter bus rollover in Northern California.
Mr. Killackey has represented clients as both plaintiffs and defendant’s counsel at trial. Mr. Killackey has never lost a trial.
