Residents of California, as well as those around the country, have likely heard the tragic news of the Asiana Airlines flight that recently crashed in San Francisco. The tragic and fatal accident led to the death of three young girls and left numerous other individuals injured.
After a tragic accident of this nature, the families dealing with the loss of a loved one likely find themselves experiencing a broad spectrum of emotions. In addition, they are likely not only facing emotional hardship, but also unexpected financial hardships. Although nothing will bring back their loved one, there may be an opportunity for compensation to help them through some of these difficulties.
According to investigators, it is believed that the plane crashed because a trainee and an instructor pilot did not realize the plane was traveling at too low of an altitude and too slowly as they were attempting to land. As the plane approached the runway, it collided with a rocky seawall. The investigation is still underway, but so far there is nothing pointing to an issue with computers, engines or automated systems in the aircraft.
The three young girls who were fatally injured in this accident were all close friends from China who were planning on attending a summer camp. One of the girls was being treated in a hospital where she was in critical condition. Unfortunately, medical professionals were unable to save her.
Another one of the girls was lying on the ground when she became covered in flame-retardant foam. The drivers of a fire truck did not see her and ran over her body on the way to the site of the crash. At this time, it is unknown if she was still alive when she was hit.
The third girl did not receive immediate medical attention. Her body was found 14 minutes after the crash next to three flight attendants, all of whom had been thrown from the plane.
The families of these young girls may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against one of the parties involved in this accident. A wrongful death cause of action can be filed when an individual’s death occurs due to the negligence of another individual or entity. When the survivors are successful with a wrongful death lawsuit, they are often able to recover compensation for medical expenses, death expenses and sometimes also for pain and suffering.
