Hit-and-run driver apprehended after car and foot chase

Hit-and-run accidents are a common occurrence on the streets and freeways in Los Angeles. However, too often a driver who caused an accident attempts to avoid arrest by fleeing the scene of the accident. As previous posts here have noted, the victims of hit-and-run drivers often have difficulty recovering damages for their injuries because the identity of the runaway driver is unknown. A recent car accident in the Canoga Park area of Los Angeles provides a welcome exception to this scenario.

Uber driver killed in LA hit-and-run crash

The recent popularity of so-called gig taxi services in Los Angeles and elsewhere has raised many concerns about their safety. Many of the drivers lack formal training, and their driving skills are often untested before they are hired. While states are debating imposing regulations on these businesses, accidents involving these services are injuring people and taking lives. A recent two-car accident in South Los Angeles has apparently killed an Uber driver and injured the passenger.

Lawsuit alleges lack of iPhone lock-out led to daughter's death

In what may be a harbinger of many lawsuits to come in California and elsewhere, a couple has sued Apple, Inc. in Santa Clara County claiming that the lack of a safety shut-off on its iPhone caused their daughter's death in a rear-end collision. The plaintiffs are claiming that Apple is responsible for their daughter's wrongful death because it failed to install automatic lock-out technology in its iPhone Face Time app.

Hit-and-run driver caught on surveillance camera in south LA

Accidents caused by drivers who leave the scene without stopping or offering aid to victims can be especially tragic for the victims and their families. Not knowing the driver's identity adds to the family's sense of anger, and the lack of an identity makes recovering damages from a hit-and-run driver very difficult. A recent car accident in South Los Angeles involving a man on a motorized bicycle and a mid-sized sedan may have a different outcome thanks to a video captured on a surveillance camera.
