A motorcycle accident that occurred in San Pedro recently has left one man dead. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after midnight on a Tuesday evening. A motorcyclist and a pickup truck collided with each other. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be sent over a wall and into an apartment complex’s backyard.
The 27-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. It was not reported whether the driver of the pickup truck suffered any injuries from the crash.
In the case of a fatal accident like this one, the victim’s family may be left with questions about exactly how such an unfortunate accident came to pass. In addition, there may be concerns about the lasting financial impact – loss of income, medical expenses, funeral expenses and more. To address these issues, families may turn to the legal system for help.
In such situations, the family may be able to bring a successful wrongful death action and recover monetary damages if the accident was caused by a negligent driver. To help determine if that is the case, it may be helpful to have a thorough, independent review of the accident conducted in addition to any investigation done by police. In certain cases, new facts may be discovered that can help support a claim for compensation.
In a wrongful death case, a successful claimant may recover damages for loss of support, loss of companionship, and medical and funeral expenses. An experienced personal injury attorney in California can advise the family of a person lost in an accident whether they may be eligible for compensation. If they are, the attorney can then represent them and work to ensure they maximize their recovery and obtain that compensation in a timely manner.
