When an accident occurs on the roadways of California, there is always the potential for injury. Unfortunately, sometimes these injuries are catastrophic or even fatal. As previous postings have discussed, there is always the possibility that the injured party, or their family in the case of a fatal accident, can recover damages from another involved driver if that person was negligent.
However, in the case of a hit-and-run, recovering this compensation becomes more difficult. Luckily for the family of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run, the police pursued and caught the 24-year-old man that fled from his vehicle after the impact.
According to reports, the fatal car crash occurred at around 3:00 in the morning. The 24-year-old man was driving at high speeds down the road when he crashed into the 22-year-old woman’s vehicle. According to those that witnessed the accident, the woman was turning left when her vehicle was struck. The bystanders believe she had the right of way.
The woman was tragically killed upon impact. The man ran from his vehicle but fortunately police quickly ran after him and caught him in a neighborhood nearby. He was arrested and charged with numerous crimes including driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Driving while intoxicated is most definitely negligent behavior. Therefore, if it is determined that this man was actually under the influence while operating his vehicle, the young woman’s family may be able to recover compensation from him. This compensation most often covers medical expenses, death expenses and pain and suffering but an experienced attorney is always able to help families that have lost a loved one determine exactly what they are entitled to.
