Given the busy nature of the roadways in California, it is important that all drivers exercise caution when operating their vehicles. When the appropriate level of caution is not exercised, it could lead to a car accident. Unfortunately, a driver in California seemed to be exhibiting hardly any caution at all which led to a car accident the left eight children and four adults with injuries.
According to police, a man driving a Lexus SUV barreled through a stop sign and struck another SUV that was carrying eight children. Many of the children were thrown from the vehicle upon impact. A motor officer tracked the man in the Lexus traveling 71 mph. He was in a 35 mph zone.
Officers do not expect that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. However, the man has still been arrested and is expected to be charged with at least felony hit-and-run as the man tried to flee the scene of the accident on foot after the initial impact.
Although the negligent driver may face criminal charges, it is likely that he will also be held liable for the serious injuries suffered by numerous others that were involve in the accident. This liability will come in the form of paying compensation for the damages suffered by the victims of the accident.
This compensation can sometimes be difficult to recover so it is often helpful to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. They will be able to go through the evidence with a fine-toothed comb and execute the necessary analysis and negotiation tactics to recover the maximum amount of compensation as quickly as possible for those parties that were injured.
