There are many possible causes of a car accident. In some cases, a vehicle malfunction could be a factor. This may have been the case in a recent accident in North Hollywood that sent three teenage girls to local hospitals.
The accident took place when three 14-year-old girls were run down by an out-of-control vehicle that was exiting the southbound ramp of the 170 Freeway. The driver of the vehicle claimed that his brakes failed, causing him to strike the girls as they were walking back to their private school after gym class. The man’s vehicle then continued to hit other vehicles. Two of the injured girls attempted to get up, but one was unable to do so.
The three girls were hospitalized. Two suffered serious injuries and one suffered critical injuries and is on life support. The driver of the vehicle was visibly upset and was cooperating with the police. Investigators say they will take apart his vehicle to complete a forensic analysis.
If there is evidence the driver was negligent, an injured victim may be able to pursue compensation from that driver. Where a defective vehicle may have played a role in the car crash, victims may also want to consider a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer of the vehicle. If the lawsuit is successful, victims can recover damages for medical bills and pain and suffering.
When it comes to car accidents determining fault is not always straightforward. Victims of car accidents should make sure they explore all their options before exercising their legal rights.
