Most truck and auto accidents occur when one or more vehicles are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even when a car is not moving, it can be involved in a serious accident, as demonstrated by an accident on the Pacific Coast Highway on June 13.
DeWayne Lawrence Coleman, formerly known as rapper MC Supreme, was sitting in his parked car on the PCH when it was struck by a GMC pickup truck. Coleman was killed, and the woman sitting in the passenger seat was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the truck resting on its roof. The truck driver sustained only minor injuries, but he was arrested and charged with one charge of vehicular homicide and suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The criminal case is waiting for the results of blood tests before it can proceed.
Based on early reports of the accident, the driver of the truck would appear to be 100% at fault for the accident and Coleman’s death. The reports did not state whether his car was properly parked on the highway, but the absence of any police comment on this aspect of the accident supports an inference that Coleman’s car was legally parked.
