Sons of WWII vet killed while riding scooter file lawsuit

On Behalf of | Jul 15, 2016 | Wrongful Death

For soldiers who served in Europe and sailors who served in the Pacific, World War II was filled with many lethal hazards. Nevertheless, many American troops survived to return home, and they and their deceased comrades are honored every Veterans’ Day. Sadly, one of these survivors was killed in Signal Hill last year on Veterans’ Day, and his sons are now seeking damages from the truck driver and his employer.

The decedent, a Navy veteran, was riding a motorized scooter to compensate for his difficulty in walking. He was struck by a truck owned by PFT Alexander, Inc. and died at the scene. PFT Alexander is a manufacturer of industrial measurement and control equipment, and its headquarters is in Signal Hill.

The man’s three sons recently filed an action in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking damages for what they allege was the wrongful death of their father. The defendants are the truck driver and his employer PFT Alexander. The suit alleges that the driver was negligent and that he and his employer share liability for their father’s death. The sons’ alleged damages include loss of their father’s companionship and financial support that he would have given them had he not died. The lawsuit is based on the California wrongful death statute.

Anyone who has lost a family member in an accident caused by another person may wish to consider a lawsuit seeking damages for the wrongful death of the family member. A consultation with a lawyer who specializes in such cases can provide a helpful analysis of the facts and an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for loss of the family member’s companionship and financial support.
