The rural roads that snake through the mountains north of Los Angeles are often the scene of car and motorcycle collisions. Drivers do not always observe the lane markings, and the many blind curves only add to the hazards. A recent car accident involving a motorcycle, an SUV, and a passenger sedan, shows how such collisions often produce many injuries.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford SUV was travelling north on San Francisquito Canyon Road near its intersection with Dilon Canyon Road when it appeared to swerve across the center line. A Toyota Camry and a Harley Davidson motorcycle were southbound on the road. The SUV smashed head-on into the Camry, and the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the disabled vehicles.
The three drivers and a passenger in one of the vehicles were taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Hospital. A Los Angeles County Fire Department Helicopter transported five of the passengers to hospitals – two to Northridge Medical Center and three to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. The driver of the Camry suffered major injuries, and the driver of the SUV suffered only minor injuries. The injuries suffered by the cyclist were not specified in the police report.
As is the case with many accidents reported in this blog, sorting out the exact sequence of events will be the key to establishing fault and liability for damages. Also, the police report did not contain any information about whether any of the drivers may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
