A girl from the Los Angeles area has died after a car hit her and two other people who were standing near a taco stand. The girl was 11 years old.
Police have filed vehicular manslaughter charges against the driver of the vehicle that struck the taco stand. The driver’s passenger, whom police described as a “juvenile” was also arrested on drug-related charges. The driver of the vehicle is 21 years old.
Police indicated that speed did contribute to this car accident; however, police would not comment on whether the driver that collided with the taco stand was engaged in street racing.
Two other people also suffered injuries in the crash, although both of the other victims are expected to survive. One of the victims suffered a broken leg.
The family of the girl who died is no doubt distraught and wondering why this happened to them. They also likely have significant financial expenses to cover following the death of the girl with which they will need help. They may also want to hold those responsible for this accident accountable for the emotional pain and suffering that the family now has to live with because of this accident.
While the crash remains under investigation, police felt confident enough in their case to charge the driver of the car with vehicular homicide, which suggests this tragedy is more than just an accident but rather the result of someone’s negligence. In addition to the criminal penalties, the family of the victim can file a wrongful death suit against the driver in order to get compensation for their losses.
