News broke of a fatal accident near Los Angeles, in which a father was killed and an additional four people were injured. There had been a hunt for the woman, who had allegedly fled to Mexico, after fleeing the scene of the crash.
She was recently apprehended, two months after the fatal Father’s Day crash.
Initially, it’s never clear why a person would decide to flee the scene of an accident. However, details came to light that suggested the driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. Empty beer cans were found in her vehicle, and the woman has a history of DUI.
Authorities had released the video of the crash in hopes of locating the woman, who is now in LAPD custody. In the video, you can see her vehicle clearly run the red light, coming to an abrupt impact with the side of another vehicle which ended up turning over and landing in a neighbor’s yard. She then exists the vehicle, walking away quickly, looking behind her to ensure she is not followed after the car accident.
The man who lost his life on Father’s Day was a father of two. Four additional passengers were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. It is never permissible to leave the scene of an accident. This fact that she fled the accident doesn’t predetermine negligence for the car accident itself. However, the video footage, coupled with criminal charges, certainly bodes well for a wrongful death suit.
