With the numerous drivers that travel the roads of Los Angeles, there are bound to be occasional accidents. Sometimes these car accidents are truly accidental in nature. Other times, however, they are caused purely by the lack of care and negligence of one of the involved parties. When this lack of care causes injury to another individual, it is important that the negligent driver is held responsible for their actions, and pays whatever damages are due to the injured party.
Unfortunately, in some cases, it is not possible to obtain this compensation. A Los Angeles bicycle-rider, who was severely injured in a hit and run accident, may find it difficult to recover compensation for his injuries, if the driver of the vehicle that injured him is not found.
The 36-year-old was riding his bike shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning when a minivan stopped in heavy traffic and took a sharp left hand turn, right into the bicyclist. The biker went onto the roof and the hood of the vehicle. At that point, instead of slowing down, the driver of the minivan sped up, knocking the biker under the vehicle, and pinning him there causing him to be dragged about a quarter of a mile.
The biker suffered from extensive injuries. So far his left leg has been amputated, and it is not yet known if his right leg will suffer the same unfortunate fate. He has 20 broken bones, had numerous surgeries and is expected to have more.
This type of medical treatment results in extensive medical expenses. Therefore, it is extremely important to find the hit and run driver so they can pay the compensation this bicyclist is not only entitled, but likely needs in order to prevent extensive debt and financial turmoil.
