Accidents involving large vehicles can have devastating results and cause serious injuries for the parties involved in the accident. This is true due to the nature of the vehicles and the products that they carry. Due to these factors, commercial vehicles that share the road with other passenger vehicles are often held to a higher standard of care to ensure everyone’s safety on the road.
A truck accident that occurred recently in California resulted in 10 individuals being sent to nearby hospitals. The accident involved a semi-truck and a KART bus; the bus was carrying a total of 15 passengers. Further details surrounding the accident are unknown at this time, but police are investigating the accident.
Due to the higher standard of care that applies to truck drivers and their employers, these types of accidents can become very complicated. The main interest of trucking companies is to minimize their exposure. Therefore, it is likely that as soon as the accident happens, the company will contact its insurance company to begin building its case.
However, it is important for California residents who have been involved in a collision involving a semi-truck or commercial motor vehicle to understand that they may be entitled to compensation if it is determined that the truck driver’s negligence was the cause of the accident. If the truck driver was at fault, then the injured victim may file a lawsuit against the driver, as well as the trucking company if the driver was acting within the scope of his employment at the time the accident occurred.
