In August of this year, this blog wrote about the unfortunate collision that killed a man as he was on his way to serve as the best man at his brother’s wedding. The man’s wife and mother are now bringing a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court to recover damages from Los Angeles County and the driver of the truck.
The car crash occurred on July 31, 2015 at about 5:00 p.m. as the man and his wife were driving to his brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner. The couple had been married for only six months after dating for eight years. The couple’s car was hit on the driver’s side as it was making a left turn on Mulholland Road. The fire truck was transporting thirteen female inmates from fire Camp 13 to the site of a brush fire.
The complaint alleges that the truck was travelling too fast and that the driver was unsafely attempting to pass the car on a two-lane road. As stated in the prior post on this accident, California law permits a firefighter to be sued for damages for the negligent operation of a motor vehicle, even a fire truck. The lawsuit states that the spouse of the deceased witnessed the death of her husband and has suffered and continues to suffer from emotional distress. The complaint seeks an unspecified amount of damages. Neither the county nor the driver has responded to the allegations of the complaint.
All car accidents seem capricious and tragic.
