Safety tips for motorcyclists

A motorcycle accident could lead to serious injury or death. Therefore, it is important for those riding on California roads to take steps to help them stay safe. Ideally, riders will wear helmets, pants and jackets that have long sleeves on them. This can protect a rider in the event that he or she makes contact with the ground. During the fall or winter seasons, wearing extra layers can help protect individuals from the cold.

Riders should always watch for motorists who may be texting or otherwise using their phones while driving. A distracted driver might not see a person on a motorcycle prior to making a turn or driving through an intersection. Motorcyclists are also encouraged to remain alert for wet roads, debris, or anything else that could make it harder to ride safely.

Individuals should obey the law at all times while on their motorcycles. This means that they should never drive faster than the posted speed limit or ride while they are impaired. It is also important for riders to stop at red lights, stop signs or when instructed to by the police. It is also generally a good idea to stay off of the roads during times of snowy, icy or rainy weather.

A person who is involved in a motorcycle crash that is caused by another person's negligence may want to contact an attorney. An attorney may help an injured victim obtain compensation for medical bills, lost wages and lost future earnings through a settlement or jury award. Legal representatives may use witness statements or police reports to prove that negligence caused an accident to happen.
